Rangers in Switzerland

So I forgot to live blog on the games in Switzerland.
Whoops.
But my goodness, do I wish I was there!
With the complete slaughter of SC Bern, the rumours and articles in the russian papers saying that if Mettalallurg Magnitogorsk beat the Rangers, each player would be paid $100,000; and the goal at 19:40 by Ryan Callahan to give the Rangers the 4-3 lead which would then lead to the victory, and the celebration afterward.

But, let's start with the Bern game, shall we?

It was a fairly close game, 2-0 through two, then at the beginning of the third, it was 2-1. Then the Rangers got a third and fourth goal, Bern just gave up after that. Their goalie just coughed up the puck, and hence the score was 8-1. I kept saying it was quite like the film "Mystery, Alaska"

And we all know that coming into the game, the Rangers weren't as heavily favoured. I mean, the best of the Russian freaking Super League, versus us, the team who hasn't made it past the 2nd playoff round the last two seasons. And especially with news clippings and rumours saying that the wealthy management would pay each player $100,000 if they won. First off, that's kind of disgusting how these oil mugs can toss money around like that. So we're playing and extra 50 cents at Lukoil so you can offer stuff like that?! Tisk, tisk.

During the game, I still rooted like hell, and I though the game was going to be won 4-2. I was close. When it was 3-0 my dad, being Mr.Negativo, said "You know they're going to lose this, right?" I shrugged him off, but that little voice in my head said "He might be right..."
But that little voice shut up quickly when Drury scored that goal. WHOO!
Then my God, I sat there, jaw on the floor when I saw that wicked shot by Fritsche.
But Mezin, man he was like ontop of everything! Half the time I was like, "Are you freaking serious!?"

Then we had the pushing and shoving and intensity, and anger.

Then Drury scored again, and we were tied.

Finally, it was twenty seconds to go.
Cally with the puck, and my God, he faked and buried it! I was screaming like hell! But man that was soo intense, it couldn't have ended any other way.

But we won the Victoria Cup!
After the game, my dad and I were chanting "We want the Cup!" :)

And we were hysterical laughing when we saw they sent out the two Russians out to get the illuminated trophy, Dimitri Kalinin and my boy, Nicky Zherdev.
I think Nicky really likes it here in New York. The fans (well at least me) love him, and he fits perfectly in the team.

And they can't banish Mattalourg out to Syberia, since that's kinda homeland.
Hahahaha :)

Countin' down the day's 'till Prague!
Let's Go Rangers!

(p.s. if anyone can find me the picture of the Rangers with the trophy, will you send the URL? Because I really want that picture :)

September 27th game

sorry it took so long! I got grounded and was unable to go on the computer, so here's thoughts i actually texted to myself.

1:22 PM:
5 minute interference is b.s.
2-0 and its not even 4 minutes in

1:25
Niiice kill :)
zherdev brought the puck up a few times
he and dubi look good as a pair going into the offensive zone

2:09
3-0
no coverage in front.
zherdev was in the box for hooking.
the czechs have come back to haunt us, elias with 2 already.

1st period over.
shot's even at 8 a piece, Devils leading 2-0, because of sloppy defense from Mara (g1) and Roszival (g2).
still very impressed with Zherdev.
Towards the end of the period, Gomer brought the rush through the zone and fed a nice pass to Nazzy, who had a sold shot which just went high. Hopefully we can rebound.

2:17
1st goal that wasn't the defenseman's fault. (*when watching "Rangers in 60" it appeared to be bad coverage by Redden.) goalies replaced, clemenson for NJ, valiquette for us.

2:22
shots:
nj:14
ny:10
power play; clarkson off for 2 for boarding. not 5 eh?

2:27
GOAAALLLLLLLLLLL!
Nazzy!
assisted by gomer and staalsy :)

2:30
CHEAP penalty!
bull shitttt.
where's the three blind mice song?
he called that from 700 feet away!

3:00
staal blocked a shot with his wrist.
hunched over on the bench, sitting next to lundqvist
praying its not a smashed wrist.

3:05
power play will not shoot!
as many of you may or may not have heard me scream "Jagr's gone, we can shoot the puck now!"
rismiller had a nice hit...

2nd period review: much more of a defensive period.
Valiquette made some nice saves.
Nazzy with a goal to put us on the board.

3:18
NICKYYYYY!
shorthanded goal assisted by dubi
and i screamed "shoot it nicky!" just before he launched a rocket :)
2-4.

3:33
rangers 2 devils 4
shots:
rangers 24
devils 23

final thoughts:
too many missed shots and opportunites, too many shots not taken, too many mistakes.
liked the offensive spurts by Zherdev and Dubi. boys leave for Europe; will not play until Tuesday.
Lundy was pulled after giving up four in one-and-a-half periods.
really fond of Zherdev, he's looked exceptionally good.
hopefully we can beat SC Bern and Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Closing thoughts:
Glad I have the two days off.
Still trying to convince dad to have us go to Astoria to the bier gardens to see the game.
We'll see.

Let's Go Rangers!
